Frequently asked questions
What size is a YouTube thumbnail?
1280 x 720 pixels, a 16:9 shape. YouTube also asks for files under 2 MB, so save as JPG or run the result through the Image Compressor.
What size are Shorts, TikTok and Reels covers?
1080 x 1920 pixels, a tall 9:16 shape. Turn on safe zones to keep faces and text away from the areas covered by buttons and captions.
What do the safe zones show?
They mark areas that apps often cover with buttons, captions or profile pictures, and the circle shows how profile pictures are cropped. Keep important details inside the clear area.
My image does not fill the frame. What happens to the gaps?
You can fill empty space with a blurred copy of your image (popular for vertical videos) or with any solid color.
Is my image uploaded?
No. Cropping happens on a canvas in your browser, so your image never leaves your device.
Can I use it with my finger?
Yes. Drag with one finger to move and pinch with two fingers to zoom. On a keyboard, use the arrow keys and the plus and minus keys.
