Wi-Fi QR settings

FieldWhat to enter
Network name (SSID)The exact name of your Wi-Fi, case sensitive
PasswordYour Wi-Fi password
SecurityWPA / WPA2 / WPA3 for almost all networks, WEP only for very old routers, None (open) for networks without a password
Hidden networkTick only if your network name is hidden

Keep it safe

Anyone who scans the code can join the network, and the password is readable from the code. For shops, cafes and rentals, set up a separate guest network on your router and put that on the QR code instead of your main network.

Tips

Print it at least 3 by 3 cm (about 1.2 inches). Bigger is easier to scan from a distance.

Keep dark code on a light background. Inverted colors fail on some phones.

Changed your password? Make a new code, the old one will stop working.

Frequently asked questions

Do Wi-Fi QR codes work on iPhone and Android?

Yes. The built in camera app on current iPhones and Android phones recognises Wi-Fi codes and offers to join.

Does the QR code expire?

No. The code contains the network details directly, so it works until you change the network name or password.

Is my Wi-Fi password sent anywhere?

No. The code is created in your browser on your device.

Why does my code not connect?

Check the network name and password match exactly, including capitals, and that the security type is right.
