Which format should I choose?
WebP is small and works in every modern browser, so it is the best pick for websites. JPG is the safest for older apps and printing. PNG keeps every pixel and supports transparency. AVIF is the smallest of all but takes longer to create.
Why is AVIF slower?
Most browsers can open AVIF but cannot create it. GlowPress includes its own AVIF encoder (a one time 3.4 MB download) that runs on your device. It is careful work, so big photos can take several seconds each.
Will I lose transparency?
Only with JPG, which cannot store see-through areas. Those areas get the background color you pick. WebP, PNG and AVIF all keep transparency.
