How to use the Background Remover
- Tap the box and choose a photo.
- Pick Any subject for products and pets, or People for portraits with lots of hair.
- Press Remove background and wait a few seconds. The first run also downloads the AI model.
- Choose transparent or a solid color, then download your PNG or send it to another tool.
Frequently asked questions
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. The AI model downloads to your browser and runs on your own device, so your photo never leaves it.
How big is the download?
The Any subject model is 4.6 MB and the People model is 6.6 MB, plus an 11 MB AI engine. They download only when you use this tool and are then saved by your browser for next time.
Why are the edges not perfect?
Small on-device models are fast and private but not as detailed as big cloud services. Try the other model, adjust Edge sharpness, or use a photo with a plain background and good light.
Does it work on phones?
Yes. Very large photos are scaled down to fit in phone memory, and if your phone still runs out of memory GlowPress tells you instead of crashing. Closing other tabs helps.
Can I use the result for YouTube thumbnails?
Absolutely. Tap Crop for social to send the cut-out to the Social Media Cropper, then check it in the Thumbnail Previewer.
Which AI models are used?
U2-Net (small version) and MODNet, both open source under the Apache 2.0 license, running with ONNX Runtime Web.
