Video to GIF

Pick a moment from any video and turn it into a looping GIF. The conversion runs on your device with ffmpeg, so nothing is uploaded.

How to use the Video to GIF

  1. Tap the box and choose a video.
  2. Play the video and use the Use current buttons, or type the start and end times.
  3. Pick a frame rate and width. 12 fps at 480 px is a nice balance.
  4. Press Make GIF. The first run downloads the video engine, then download your GIF.

Frequently asked questions

Is my video uploaded?

No. GlowPress uses ffmpeg compiled to run in your browser, so your video stays on your device the whole time.

Why is the first GIF slow?

The video engine is about 31 MB and downloads from the free jsDelivr network the first time you use a video tool. Your browser keeps it, so later runs start much faster.

How long can my GIF be?

Keep GIFs under about 10 seconds. GIF is an old format, so long or wide clips create very big files. For longer clips, the Video Trimmer with MP4 output is a better choice.

Will it work on my phone?

Yes for short clips. Phones have less memory, so videos over about 100 MB may fail. GlowPress warns you about big files before you start.

How do I make the GIF smaller?

Lower the frame rate, choose a smaller width or make the clip shorter. Each of those can cut the size in half.
